At ReduceMyInsurance.net, we work for you, not the insurance companies. While it would be great if one insurance company was better than all of the others, it’s not quite that simple. While one insurance company may have a great for one individual, it may be much more expensive for another person or family for the same coverage. Let’s explore the basics of how your rate is determined.
1. “We have the best rates!”
All insurance companies say the same thing: “Low rates, great coverage!” The truth is, they’re all providing the same coverage, but for different prices depending on your age, location, driving history, claim history, and many other factors.
2) “But my friend isn’t paying that much and he has a new house and car!”
Newer, more expensive cars cost more to insure. However, a new home costs less to insure because insurance companies do not see new homes as high of a risk. Older homes typically need new roofs, plumbing, and other necessary updates.
3) “I’m not going to drive for a while. Might as well cancel my auto policy.”
Usually, if a car is temporarily out of service or you’re on vacation for a while, your car isn’t used for a month, maybe longer. It may seem like a good way to save money by cancelling your auto insurance, but you’ll end up paying more when you look for a new auto policy once the car is fixed or you’re back from an extended vacation. Keeping continuous coverage for at least six months without a lapse and longer will reduce your rate by 30% or more. If you cancel your policy, and look for a new one a month or two later, you’ll end up paying more than if you had just kept your auto insurance policy active. Call us at 615-900-0288 or email us at Service@ReduceMyInsurance.net if you have any questions about this or anything else!
4) “A few shingles came off at some point. Time to file a claim.”
Stop! Not yet. Evaluate how severe the damage is. Home and auto insurance are designed to be used for catastrophic losses, not minor damages that can be fixed for a relatively small amount of money. Filing a roof claim because a few shingles are damaged is an option, but you’ll end up paying more in premium increases than if you had simply replaced the few shingles yourself. Please note: I am not encouraging you to climb on your roof to fix anything. I encourage you to hire a professional roofer if any work needs to be done. Also, know your deductible before you file a claim. Do you think the damage will cost significantly more than your deductible? Give us a call at 615-900-0288 or email us at Service@ReduceMyInsurance.net if you have any questions about when it is and is not appropriate to file a claim.
5) “My premium increased this month? Time to call a new insurance agency!”
Did your premium increase? Do you think it’s an unfair increase? If you’ve had any accidents or tickets recently, that may cause an increase. Are you sure you haven’t made any changes to the policy? Before calling anyone else, please give us a call so we can make sure you’re still getting the lowest rate available. Again, we work for you, not the insurance companies.
