With a sharp increase in natural disasters including hurricanes, wildfires, and even earthquakes, it's an appropriate and crucial time to focus on what we can do to prepare for these kinds of events. There are several resources on Ready.gov that can help you and your loved ones better prepare for natural disasters and other calamities.
Disasters Don't Plan Ahead. You Can.
This is the slogan of this year's national preparedness month. While we hope that these scenarios never occur in our lives, we can also make plans and be prepared so that if such an event occurs, we are ready and able to survive without running water and access to gasoline, stores, etc.
This is an example plan of how to make necessary preparations:
Week 1: Make a Plan for Yourself, Family, and Friends
Week 2: Plan to Help Your Neighbor and Community
Week 3: Practice and Build Out Your Plans
Week 4: Get Involved! Be a Part of Something Larger
When disaster strikes, it's too late to form a plan of what to do, where to go, who to contact, and other steps to ensure safety. By planning now for what may or may not happen, you and your loved ones will be ready to act if a natural disaster occurs in your area.
In addition to these plans, it's important to know what your insurance policies do and do not cover. Flood insurance is a separate policy from homeowners or renters insurance. If you have a homeowners or renters policy only, your home and contents will not be covered if the loss occurs from flooding. If you would like a quote on flood insurance, or any other type of insurance, please give us a call at 615-900-0288 or visit ReduceMyInsurance.Net for a free quote.
